Strengthening Global Collaboration for a Healthier Future: Indonesia’s Participate in WHO CC Global Forum Lyon 2026

As a WHO Collaborating Centre, Indonesia continues to strengthen its role in contributing to health workforce development through collaboration, learning, and alignment with global initiatives.

The WHO Collaborating Centres Global Forum, held on 7–9 April 2026 in Lyon, France, brought together WHO Collaborating Centres, WHO offices, and Member States to strengthen collaboration and better align their contributions to global health priorities, including WHO’s General Programme of Work (GPW 14). The forum served as a platform to enhance coordination, share experiences, and expand partnerships in addressing emerging health challenges.

Indonesia participated in the Global Forum through the Directorate General of Health Workforce and the Poltekkes WHO Collaborating Centre. The Indonesian delegation comprised Dr Yuli Farianti from the Directorate General of Health Workforce, Dr Anna Kurniati, Head of the Poltekkes WHO Collaborating Centre, and Ms Tri Juniarti Project Management Officer at the Directorate General of Health Workforce.

On the first day, delegates visited the WHO Academy campus in Lyon, where they explored its state-of-the-art learning facilities, including the simulation centre designed for training health professionals. The visit also included an interactive session with WHO Academy experts, opening discussions on potential collaboration in lifelong learning and health workforce development.

Throughout the forum, discussions emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration among WHO Collaborating Centres through innovative partnerships and evidence-based approaches. Participants highlighted the need to better align efforts with global priorities while ensuring that collaboration leads to meaningful impact at country level.

During the Regional Breakout Group Session for the Western Pacific Region (WPR), Indonesia engaged in focused discussions on strengthening collaboration across WHO. The key insights and common themes that emerged include:

  • Leveraging interregional networking to address shared challenges and priorities, including advancing equity and engagement of centres from low- and middle-income countries.
  • Strengthening areas of existing collaboration within the Western Pacific Region through more structured coordination and sustained joint efforts.
  • Addressing gaps, duplication, and coordination challenges by improving alignment and communication across WHO Collaborating Centres to enhance overall impact

“Across all areas of our work, science underpins progress. Our collaborating centres and partners play a critical role in turning evidence into action and improving health outcomes worldwide.  The achievements of the past century were made possible through science and solidarity, and the future depends on how we continue to harness both.” – Dr. Tedros Adhanom, Director General, WHO.

Indonesia’s participation in the WHO Collaborating Centres Global Forum highlights the importance of turning global knowledge and collaboration into real action at country level. By learning from other centres and strengthening partnerships, Indonesia can further integrate evidence into policy and programme implementation, particularly in health workforce development. In the long term, this contributes to more responsive health systems and improved health services for communities.

Building on the forum insights, Poltekkes WHO Collaborating Centre will continue to strengthen collaboration with WHO and other collaborating centres, translating these into concrete actions through ongoing programmes and future initiatives to enhance health workforce capacity and learning systems.
